Jude Law isn't the only Captain Marvel star with a role shrouded in mystery – there's been plenty of speculation over Annette Bening's character, too.

And now, just as the true Captain Marvel identity of Jude Law has been revealed, we also know who – or rather, what – Annette will be playing.

The actor revealed all while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, confirming that she will be bringing to life the role of the Supreme Intelligence.

In the Marvel comics, the Supreme Intelligence (or Supremor) is usually a floating green head, but Annette will bring a more humanoid touch to the character.

The Supreme Intelligence, originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960s, is an artificial intelligence who rules the shape-shifting alien race, the Kree.

The collective embodiment of the Kree Empire's greatest minds, the Supreme Intelligence is considered one of the most important leaders in the Marvel universe. Makes sense.

Captain Marvel is released in cinemas on March 8, shortly followed by Avengers: Endgame, which hits UK cinemas on April 25 and US cinemas on April 26.
