Jan. 16—Butterfield Stage Players opens its latest comedy "Mama Won't Fly" by Jones, Hope and Wooten this Friday.
"It's a funny little tale about a mother and daughter driving cross-country to their son/brother's wedding," said Director Devon Hacker. "On the day that they're leaving, the mother has decided that she's not flying, so it's more of a tension on the schedule, especially because the bride-to-be shows up at the door the day they're leaving, so it's a wacky tale of all of their endeavors on the road."
In addition to the main three, the show features a colorful cast of characters that add some bumps along the road as the trio tries get to California.
"At one point they stop in Texas to meet the family because they want the family to meet the bride-to-be before the wedding," said Hacker. "Everyone other than the main three plays multiple characters, so there's a lot of wacky characters along the way."
Performances are Jan. 19-20 and 25-27 at 7 p.m. with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on January 28. Tickets are available at butterfieldstage.org or by calling (940) 665-1284.
"I think audiences will enjoy it," said Hacker. "Just come seeking fun."
