Car crashes into school and pupils evacuated

A school in Gloucestershire has been evacuated after a car crashed into it, causing structural damage. Police were called to reports of a car crashing into a building in Tewkesbury just after 8.30am this morning (Wednesday, June 26).

Emergency services were called to the scene in Ashchurch after it was reported a car crashed into Alderman Knight School. It is thought the crash caused structural damage to the building, forcing the staff and pupils to evacuate.

A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A statement from Gloucestershire Police said: "Emergency services are currently responding to a report that a vehicle has collided with a building in the Ashchurch area of Tewkesbury. Police were called to Alderman Knight School on Ashchurch Road shortly after 8.25am this morning (Wednesday 26 June) and no injuries have been reported.

"A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident. The building is currently being evacuated so that any structural damage can be assessed."

It is not known if the school will require structural work before it is reopened.
