Car Drives Through Group of Daunte Wright Demonstrators in Minneapolis

No injuries were reported after a motorist drove through a group of demonstrators in downtown Minneapolis on November 30, as jury selection began in the trial of former police officer Kim Potter, who is charged in the April killing of Daunte Wright.

Potter faces first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter charges following the April 11 shooting of Wright in Brooklyn Center, near Minneapolis. Bodycam footage released after the incident captured Potter shouting “Taser” before opening fire. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said he believed Potter had meant to use her Taser and accidentally fired her sidearm instead. Gannon later resigned alongside Potter.

The shooting of Wright, who was African American, led to protests in greater Minneapolis. A year earlier, George Floyd’s killing at the hands of Minneapolis police sparked nationwide demonstrations. At the time of Wright’s shooting, Derek Chauvin was on trial for Floyd’s murder.

Jury selection in the Potter trial began on Tuesday, November 30. This footage, taken that evening, shows a car driving through a group of people holding “Justice for Daunte Wright” signs gathered near the Hennepin County Government Center. Demonstrators can be seen jumping on the car and attempting to stop it. No one was injured in the incident, according to local reports. Credit: Ben Garvin Media via Storyful
