Car In Fatal Crash Was Being Followed By Police

A car involved in a fatal crash with a taxi in Glasgow was being pursued by a police van at the time.

Mary Laurie, who was reportedly returning home from her son's wedding in the Hackney cab, died at the scene of the crash on the Springhill Industrial Estate.

The collision also involved a green Vauxhall Astra, which had been asked to pull over by police.

Officers had turned on their blue lights and were following the Astra when it collided with the cab Mrs Laurie was travelling in at 1.30am on Sunday morning.

Her 52-year-old husband, who was also in the taxi, is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

The taxi driver, along with the two people inside the Vauxhall Astra - a 20-year-old male driver and his 16-year-old female passenger - had minor injuries.

Mrs Laurie's relatives said "she will be sadly missed by all the family".

The incident has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, as is "standard procedure".

Meanwhile, the driver of the Vauxhall Astra is being investigated by the Procurator Fiscal in connection with alleged road traffic offences.
