Kelly Hoppen is celebrating 40 years of transforming rooms, including the Beckham’s pad, with her textured, neutral palettes. When she’s not focusing on her empire, the interior designer and entrepreneur likes nothing more than visiting the countryside in her Bentley Continental, as she tells Gabrielle Fagan.
What was your first car?
A Mini, which I named Louis. It was royal blue and very bashed up! I could only get in from the passenger side because the driver’s side door didn’t work. As it couldn’t be locked properly it got stolen every week but I kept tracking it down and getting it back!
What’s your current car?
A black Bentley Continental GT V8 S MDS. The design is absolutely beautiful. It has comfortable seating, which is key. I think it’s so hard to find a car for a woman that actually fits a woman – and this does the job perfectly. I have always loved them, even the older style models.
What’s your dream car?
I already own it!
Did you pass your driving test first time?
Do you consider yourself a good driver?
I think I’m brilliant, I love driving.
A wonderful entrance is the interiors equivalent of a big hug, welcoming yourself home It also sets the tone for your visitors. xx pic.twitter.com/ZOzYIP0kZX

Drivers who are on their mobiles
Do you wash your own car?
Definitely not. I haven’t got time for things like that so I have it valetted
What do you listen to in the car?
I love commercial radio station Magic Soul
What’s been your favourite road trip?
I love driving anywhere in the countryside.
What’s your idea of a dream road trip?
I never want to go anywhere too far away. I enjoy driving to the country for a day out or a weekend away, but not being confined to the car for hours on end.
