Car park replaces 21-storey high-rise Leicester block
A new temporary public car park is now open in Leicester, to help ease parking pressures in the area. Leicester City Council has created the car park on the site of the former Goscote House residential tower block, in Highfields, which was demolished in 2023.
The car park, just behind the St Peter's Health Centre, will be open for an initial period of three years, while the city council considers options for the long-term use of the site. The surface-level pay-and-display car park has 35 spaces, charged at a rate of £1 per hour.
Of the 35 spaces, two will are designated for disabled parking. Blue badge holders will be able to park for free.

Access to the car park is via Willow Court, off Sparkenhoe Street, with drivers exiting via Moon Close onto Maidstone Road. The car park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
City mayor Peter Soulsby said: “There is no doubt that this patch of land has long-term strategic importance, and we need to carefully consider options for its future development to ensure they offer maximum benefit to the area and wider community. In the meantime, by creating this temporary car park we can help ease immediate parking pressures in the area and for important nearby organisations like the health centre.”
