It's going to become even harder to find a space at a busy town centre car park from today (Monday, May 27). The Regent Arcade car park in Cheltenham is the most central multi-storey in Cheltenham but is undergo essential maintenance work that will last throughout the summer months.

The car park, in Regent Street, will remain open while the works continue until early September. But fewer parking spaces will be available until early September.

Users of the car park - used by people going to the theatre, cinema and meals out as well as shops - have already seen some spaces coned off in recent months. The car park has more than 500 car parking spaces over four parking levels.

At peak times, the car park can become extremely busy and sometimes long queues can build up on Regent Street and within the car park itself. Many people opt for the open air car parks at North Place and Portland Street.

In a message, Cheltenham Borough Council said: "Essential maintenance work on the Regent Arcade car park will start from Monday 27 May until early September. During this time the car park will remain open, but fewer parking spaces will be available.

"Various areas of the car park will be closed over the next few months as work progresses."

Fewer spaces are likely to impact on other car parks in town and Cheltenham Borough Council has provided a list of alternative car parks here.
