Car ploughs through McDonald's - now a man is fighting for his life

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries when a car crashed through a McDonald's restaurant in South Yorkshire.

Footage captured the horrific aftermath of the crash that left the car inside the restaurant after it had smashed through the restaurant's wall in Thorne Road, Doncaster. The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The smash saw fire, police and ambulance crews race to the scene on Saturday afternoon when the restaurant was busy with customers who were left terrified.

Footage (above) shows a white Vauxhall car inside the restaurant and surrounded by debris. A man, 31, was arrested while another man, 37, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police had to evacuate the restaurant. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said at the time: "We were called around 4pm today (Saturday) to reports of a road traffic collision at McDonalds on Thorne Road, Doncaster.

"It is reported that a white Vauxhall Astra collided into the side of the restaurant building. Officers have attended, supported by officers from British Transport Police, and the fire and ambulance service.

"McDonalds has been evacuated as a safety precaution. A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. A 37-year-old man has been taken to hospital where his injuries are thought to be life-threatening."

McDonald's issued a statement and it was assisting police. "We are aware of an incident that occurred at our Thorne Road, Doncaster restaurant.

"We are supporting the police with their ongoing enquiries and we will be offering support to our people who were working in the restaurant at the time." The restaurant involved in the crash is closed, and the firm does not know when it will reopen."
