Questions were raised by South West locals today after a car was spotted on a Cornwall beach. Passersby raised concern, thinking the car was stuck, or may become stuck due to how far it had driven onto the sand.

Others joked the driver had taken their vehicle 'for a walk' on Towan Beach, in Newquay, this afternoon. CornwallLive reports photographs were captured of the stationary vehicle and posted to Facebook group 'Newest Newquay' at around 3pm on January 19.

The pictures showed a dark coloured vehicle in the middle of the sand, as people walked along the shoreline, or went for a dip in the sea.

In the comments, there was much speculation as to whether the car was stuck there. Among the comments was a mixture of humour and concern.

Some simply said they "can't park there", while others were left wondering if they needed to give the recovery service a call in advance.

More wondered if the driver's satnav had taken them off course. However, it has since been confirmed the car made it off the beach with ease, according to eyewitnesses.

It seems that this time of year is no stranger to motorists braving the drive onto Towan Beach. CornwallLive reported back on January 15, 2024, that a Mercedes got stuck on the beach after opting to park on the sand instead of the nearby car park.

The silver Mercedes accidentally ended up on the beach in an attempt to turn around - but got trapped. Numerous attempts were made to pull the car from the sand before the impending tide came in.

The AA and a 4x4 tried to tow the car and got nowhere. It wasn’t until a local hero in a tractor came to the rescue and pulled the car from the sand trap.

Towan Beach in Newquay seems to be the perfect spot for people assuming it is safe to drive vehicles onto the sand. In 2023, numerous people found themselves trapped after driving cars onto the beach, four happened in one day during peak summer season.
