Former Love Island winner Cara De La Hoyde has issued a warning to this year's couples.

The reality star is five months pregnant with the baby of ex-boyfriend Nathan Massey – and she's made no secret of the fact that she regrets their relationship hasn't worked out.

"Watching the new series was emotional because me and Nathan aren't together," she said. "We're still good friends and we talk every day – he's always checking up on me and is very involved. I know he will have a lot to do with the baby.

"Everyone's got their fingers crossed something will happen [between us] when the baby comes."

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine about her break-up, Cara then issued some advice for the Love Island 2017 couples so that they can avoid ending up in a similar position to her.

"I've always said that if me and Nathan took things more slowly, we'd still be together," she admitted. "It's so overwhelming in that house and you don't see the build-up on the outside while you're in there. You don't realise that everyone now knows who you are.

"My advice would be to enjoy it because this year is going to go very quickly. There will be another Love Island and there will be another Kem and Amber, just like there is a new Cara and Nathan.

"Take time to be yourselves and don't let anyone else tell you what to do as a couple. Remember why you're with each other because it's a very pressurised environment."

Cara and Nathan are due to welcome their first child together in November, with fans, friends and family hoping that the former couple are able to work out their differences once the baby arrives.

However, even if they don't give their relationship another shot, Cara has insisted that they will remain on good terms and put the baby first.

Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays at 8.30am.
