Full-time! West Brom 0-6 Arsenal
21:52 , Tom Doyle
That’s it at The Hawthorns, and it’s been a truly excellent night for Arsenal.
It may have only been a weakened West Brom side, but the Gunners showed real swagger tonight, with Aubameyang, Saka, Lacazette and Odegaard all sharp - and that bodes well for this weekend’s test against Man City.
21:48 , Tom Doyle

Nope, Saka is back out there and on the ball. You just can’t keep him away.
21:47 , Tom Doyle
Saka gingerly limps off the pitch with what looks like a thigh complaint - given Arsenal have this game well and truly won, you’d think he might just sit out the final few minutes.
21:46 , Tom Doyle
83 mins: Saka is taken out needlessly by a late West Brom tackle, and he needs treatment. That’s always the danger in a game like this.
21:45 , Tom Doyle
A quick reminder now that the Carabao Cup third-round draw takes place after this game finishes, and we’ll keep you up to date with the fixtures right here.
21:42 , Tom Doyle
It could be seven for Arsenal here as Lacazette fires a sharp low effort in, but Palmer saves well and claims at the second attempt.
21:39 , Tom Doyle
76 mins: Job done for Aubameyang, and Arsenal fans can breathe a sigh of relief - off he goes for Martinelli.
21:34 , Tom Doyle
Great low stop from Ramsdale!
He’s determined to keep hold of his clean sheet - and without him, it could easily have been 6-2 or 6-3 tonight.
GOAL! West Brom 0-6 Arsenal | Lacazette, 67 mins
21:31 , Tom Doyle
It’s six for Arsenal!
Lacazette almost had an assist right off the bench, but he’s got a goal instead as he clinically finishes a Pepe cross from the right into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Great first-time finish.
Off the bar!
21:30 , Tom Doyle
Pepe has hit the woodwork for the second time today, running clean through onto a great Lacazette pass - but he opts for an over-elaborate finish, and lobs the ball over the keeper and onto the bar!
21:29 , Tom Doyle
Another Arsenal change, but it’s not Aubameyang coming off... Xhaka makes way for Lacazette.
Is that wise of Arteta to keep Auba on with Man City up next on Saturday? Time will tell...
21:28 , Tom Doyle
Pepe drives from the right and tries to slot in Aubameyang for his fourth, but the ball is just too long and runs for the keeper.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
21:27 , Tom Doyle
A goal straight out of the Aubameyang playbook as he cuts in from the left and curls the ball into the top corner. Time to take him off now?
21:27 , Tom Doyle
Zohore makes way for the Baggies - on comes Faal.
GOAL! West Brom 0-5 Arsenal | Aubameyang hat-trick, 62 mins
21:26 , Tom Doyle
Aubameyang has his hat-trick!
Pepe pucks up the ball on the right, and passes to Maitland-Niles in the middle.
He shifts the ball wide left to Aubameyang, who cuts in on his right foot and bends a glorious finish high into the opposite corner of the net!
21:24 , Tom Doyle
Odegaard gets a warm round of applause from the travelling Arsenal fans as he departs - on comes Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
21:21 , Tom Doyle
West Brom caught out yet again as Odegaard finds Saka out wide left with a great ball from midfield, but Taylor does well to block the cross to prevent Aubameyang from scoring another tap-in.
21:19 , Tom Doyle
Ramsdale gets his ribs and back checked out, and should be OK to continue.
He’s done well tonight, and although it is a weakened West Brom side, Ramsdale has done what was needed - plus he looks confident with the ball at his feet.
21:18 , Tom Doyle
Let’s hope Ramsdale just winded himself there - he came a long way, and landed with a bump.
21:17 , Tom Doyle
54 mins: Ramsdale is working hard for this clean sheet as he makes a smart low stop with his feet from close range.
From the resulting corner, Ramsdale comes a long way to claim the ball, but lands awkwardly - this is a worry.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
21:17 , Tom Doyle
That was a lovely, lovely goal from Arsenal. The away fans are enjoying themselves now - and why not - they’ve had a rough few weeks.
21:16 , Tom Doyle
West Brom want a goal and almost get it, but Ramsdale makes a good save.
GOAL! West Brom 0-4 Arsenal | Bukayo Saka, 49 mins
21:13 , Tom Doyle
Game well and truly over!
Saka starts and finishes a lovely Arsenal move, driving from halfway and passing to Odegaard who backheels the ball through for the England youngster to finish!
21:11 , Tom Doyle
Tavares almost catches Palmer out from the flank here, but the Baggies keeper breathes a sigh of relief.
21:10 , Tom Doyle
An interesting stat from Sky Sports - West Brom’s starting XI tonight cost a combined £10m, while Arsenal’s set them back £261m. That tells you the story of the game.
21:09 , Tom Doyle
The key for Arteta’s side now is to retain that hunger and focus from the opening 45 minutes.
The game is effectively over as a contest, but Arteta won’t want to risk a late rally from West Brom to eat away at that fragile confidence his side are building.
Kick-off
21:08 , Tom Doyle
We are back underway at The Hawthorns.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
21:06 , Tom Doyle
Nuno looks raw. The roughest of rough diamonds.
But some moments that were quite exciting, mainly going forward. Will need plenty of work/coaching, but can see why club went for him.— Simon Collings (@sr_collings) August 25, 2021
Half-time! West Brom 0-3 Arsenal
20:52 , Tom Doyle
So, Arsenal are three goals to the good, with the tie as good as over after some clinical finishing.
Aubameyang has two goals and an assist, and that is just what the Gunners needed.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
20:50 , Tom Doyle
Crisis, what crisis?
GOAL! West Brom 0-3 Arsenal | Nicolas Pepe, 45 mins
20:49 , Tom Doyle
Game over, surely!
Aubameyang almost adds his hat-trick - the ball pops up and he tries to bicycle kick it into the net, but skews it off target.
No matter though, as his effort falls right at the feet of Nicolas Pepe to tap home!
20:48 , Tom Doyle
They’re in again...
GOAL! West Brom 0-2 Arsenal | Aubemayeng, 44 mins
20:47 , Tom Doyle
It’s two for Aubameyang, and two for Arsenal!
Again West Brom play a high line, and fail to either close the ball or track the runner - and again they pay the price.
Pepe is slipped through on the right and should score, but Palmer tips his shot onto the post... but Aubameyang is on hand to again put the ball into an empty net
20:42 , Tom Doyle
Snodgrass stands over the ball - it’s a great position for a left-footer - but he blasts the ball straight at the wall.
The ball pops up for another shot which Elneny blocks, and Arsenal eventually clear their lines.
20:41 , Tom Doyle
38 mins: Kolasinac is late to a loose ball and takes out Ingram wide of the Arsenal penalty area. He’s booked, and this is a dangerous position...
20:38 , Tom Doyle
Kipre is up after that clash with his keeper, but he’s limping off the field - he should be OK to continue though.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
20:37 , Tom Doyle
Odegaard just so nice to watch. So assured on the ball, never gives it away and exudes calm. Arsenal need more of that.
— Simon Collings (@sr_collings) August 25, 2021
20:36 , Tom Doyle
A long ball over the top towards Aubameyang sees Palmer race off his line and take the ball, but he also takes out his team-mate Kipre - he’s down and needs treatment.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
20:34 , Tom Doyle
It feels like a second goal would kill this game. West Brom are showing plenty of heart and willing, but they’re leaving gaps. Arsenal just need to make that final pass count.
20:30 , Tom Doyle
Arsenal break at pace with Saka - he plays to Aubameyang, who passes towards Tavares... but the wing-back slips! Had he got the ball, Pepe was free on the overlap for a great chance.
20:29 , Tom Doyle
Rob Holding is caught out on halfway as Zohore rolls him all too easily, and referee David Webb hands the Arsenal defender a yellow card.
20:28 , Tom Doyle
26 mins: Arsenal look comfortable now, and The Hawthorns is pretty quiet. Mikel Arteta will want his side to use this pressure and add another before half-time.
20:27 , Tom Doyle
Aaron Ramsdale certainly enjoyed Aubameyang’s opener...
Off the post!
20:25 , Tom Doyle
Arsenal cpould be 2-0 up here as Saka drives in from the left and shoots across goal with his right foot.
The ball is blocked and runs for Odegaard at a tight angle in the six-yard box, but he hits the post!
Could he have gotten around that? Yes, probably, but that’s probably a case of lacking a bit of match fitness.
Watch: Aubameyang goal
20:23 , Tom Doyle
Here is the moment Arsenal took the lead...
GOAL! West Brom 0-1 Arsenal (Aubameyang, 17)
🗣 "Something to lift the mood for Mikel Arteta!"

It looks like Zohore will try to run it off, but Faal is being readied just in case.
20:22 , Tom Doyle
More bad news for West Brom - Zohore is down again after suffering an injury early doors closing down Ramsdale.
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
20:21 , Tom Doyle
That will do Arsenal the world of good. It will hardly go down as goal of the season, but Aubameyang taps it home.
Boy did he, and the Gunners, need that. “We’ve scored a goal,” the Arsenal fans ironically chant.
GOAL! West Brom 0-1 Arsenal | Aubameyang, 16 mins
20:19 , Tom Doyle
The Gunners lead!
It’s great work from Bukayo Saka as Castro fails to clear a loose ball, and the Arsenal teenager finds space before firing in a low shot.
Palmer can only palm it out, and Aubameyang snaffles up the rebound.
20:18 , Tom Doyle
15 mins: Ramsdale easlily claims an overhit West Brom cross from Reach - that was a poor ball considering Zohore was well placed.
20:16 , Tom Doyle
Kipre catches Tavares with a rogue stamp after a duel - it looks accidental, and the Arsenal wing-back is OK to continue. Let’s say that was careless rather than malicious...
Close for West Brom!
20:14 , Tom Doyle
West Brom are very nearly ahead off a cute corner routine - the ball is played into the near post and flicked back for Reach, but he can only sidefoot wide of the far post!
Simon Collings | Arsenal correspondent
20:13 , Tom Doyle
A shaky start from Arsenal. West Brom have looked lively, throwing themselves into tackles and making their presence known. The home fans have responded and the atmosphere in here is heating up.
20:13 , Tom Doyle
Chaos in the Arsenal penalty area as Fellows sees a shot blocked. The Baggies see another shot blocked before Ramsdale palms a decent curling effort from Fellows wide for a corner.
20:09 , Tom Doyle
West Brom are putting Arsenal’s defence under pressure. The Gunners are looking to pass out from the back, but will need to beat that high press in this half.
20:08 , Tom Doyle
5 mins: Aubameyang goes through and rounds Palmer close to the byline, but the flag eventually goes up as the Arsenal captain ran the ball out of play.
20:07 , Tom Doyle
There was a late change for the Baggies before kick-off...
A late change to our starting XI. Taylor Gardner-Hickman comes in for Rayhaan Tulloch, who has picked up an injury in the warm up.

Match prediction
17:58 , Tom Doyle
Arsenal badly need a win, but have a number of players out - so this game will be a balancing act between getting a result, and giving players valuable minutes early in the season.
The Gunners should just shade this, but it could be a tough one.
West Brom 1-2 Arsenal

17:58 , Tom Doyle
West Brom XI: Johnstone; O’Shea, Bartley, Ajayi, Furlong; Livermore, Mowatt, Townsend, Robinson, Phillips; Grant
Arsenal XI: Ramsdale; Chambers, Holding, Mari, Tavares; Elneny, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Aubameyang
Early WBA team news
17:57 , Tom Doyle
The Baggies are waiting to discover the extent of Matt Clarke’s hamstring injury. Brighton loanee Clarke pulled up chasing a loose ball shortly before half-time against Blackburn at the weekend.
Defender Semi Ajayi replaced Clarke against Rovers and may deputise once again. Grady Diangana dropped to the bench at the weekend and could figure if boss Valerien Ismael shuffles his pack.
Early Arsenal team news
17:57 , Tom Doyle
Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette are available for Arsenal. Odegaard has now received full clearance to play following his £30million switch from Real Madrid and Lacazette is back in full training following his positive Covid-19 test.
Summer signing Ben White also tested positive ahead of the Chelsea match and will not be available tonight, but new goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could make his debut following a £30m move from Sheffield United.
Kieran Tierney has returned to full training after suffering from cramps in his thigh and Hector Bellerin will have a late check on a thigh problem.
