Hull City will be ball number 18 when the draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup draw is made next Thursday, just over 24 hours after the Championship fixture list is confirmed.

The EFL have announced that the draw will be made live on Sky Sports News at 11:30am and will see the Tigers find out who they'll face in the first midweek of the season, coming just days after the Championship's opening weekend.

Last term, City suffered opening round embarrassment when they were dumped out of the competition by League Two side Doncaster Rovers, despite taking an early lead through Oscar Estupinan.

City, then managed by Liam Rosenior, were booed off by a frustrated MKM Stadium crowd having seen their side humbled by former boss Grant McCann.

New boss Tim Walter has the chance to do something the Tigers haven't been able to do since the 2020/21 campaign and that's make it past the first hurdle.

In the last three seasons, City have been beaten by Rovers, Bradford City and Wigan Athletic with their last foray further into the competition coming in their League One-winning campaign when McCann's side were thrashed 5-1 at Premier League outfit West Ham at the Olympic Stadium. That tie was played when Covid restrictions were still in place meaning the game was played behind closed doors.

This term, in the event of scores being level at the end of ninety minutes in rounds one, two, three, four and five, no extra time will be played with the game going straight to penalties.

Burnley, Luton Town and the 13 Premier League clubs not participating in European competitions will enter the competition in round two, with the remaining seven clubs joining the competition in round three, by which point the regionalised element will stop.
