Cardi B in court after failing to complete community service for strip club assault

Grammy Award-winning musician Cardi B has been given a second chance to complete community service handed to her over an assault at a strip club.

The US rapper was ordered to appear before a judge in New York City on Tuesday after failing to carry out 15 days of mandatory unpaid work as part of a plea deal.

Cardi B, 30, became embroiled in a row with female bartenders in 2018 after accusing one of having an affair with her husband, fellow rapper, Offset.

She admitted two misdemeanour assault charges in September last year.

Cardi B, real name Belcalis Almanzar, said after pleading guilty: "Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions."

She appeared at Queens County Criminal Court for what has been described as a "compliance update" hearing.

She attended wearing a white figure-hugging dress and a long white coat with matching sunglasses, sharing pictures of herself arriving at the court flanked by her entourage with her 149 million Instagram followers.

A judge has given her until 1 March to complete the community service.

In a statement, her lawyer said the singer "appreciates" being given the extra time.

"Personally and professionally, Cardi is dedicated to community service and charitable endeavours," they said.

Cardi B and Offset revealed how they were "so overjoyed" to welcome their second child in 2021.

She had filed for divorce in September 2020, but dismissed the case two months later.
