Cardi B talks anxiety, meeting Megan Thee Stallion and more in Tidal interview

Cardi B is back. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper dropped the single “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion on August 6.

The release comes after a nine-month musical hiatus from The Bronx rapper. The platinum artist sat down for a long chat with Tidal’s Elliot Wilson. Luckily for the Bardi Gang, the interview is available to members and non-members of the streaming service.

Cardi dished on the pandemic and how she met Megan Thee Stallion, who is featured on “WAP,” through their stylists. She also talked about how hard it was to make a clean version of the x-rated anthem “WAP” (we can’t even tell you what the acronym really stands for) for YouTube.

“I really feel like I’m back in 2017. I’ve been having so much anxiety towards this day. Yesterday I was just so emotional, so overwhelmed with all the love that I was tearing,” Cardi told Wilson.

However, the video racked up over 12 million views in 13 hours. The apprehension was for nothing.

“I’m a really shy person, even when it comes to females I get even more shy,” she said of her and Megan’s stylists trying to get them to be friends. “They did their little thing and they made it happen. And we linked up.”

The two began sending each other tracks and well, you can guess what happens next. Cardi said she always envisioned “WAP” with other female rappers. But she feels like her shyness holds her back from doing the collaborations she wants.

She also cited fan culture pitting women MCs against each other as a reason it’s harder to connect. However, “WAP” featured appearances from female artists like Rubi Rose, Mulatto, Normani, Rosalía, Sukihana and even Kylie Jenner. Girl power prevailed.

“Me working with Megan was really, like, so smooth,” Cardi said, praising their chemistry.
