Cardiff Half Marathon postponed again
The Cardiff Half Marathon has been postponed for the second time, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The race was originally moved from October 2020 to March 2021, but has today been moved to Sunday 3 October 2021.
In a statement released by Cardiff Half Marathon organisers, Run 4 Wales, said despite watching 'with optimism' over recent months as lockdown restrictions eased across the UK and Wales, it is now clear that 'against a backdrop of rising cases' it will not be possible to put on the race on 28 March 2021.
The race has been postponed until Sunday 3 October 2021, with the 2022 race also being moved to the autumn, taking place on Sunday 2 October 2022.
'The health and safety of our runners, volunteers, event team and the wider population is of the utmost importance to us. We have therefore been working closely with the Welsh Government and other mass participation event organisers across Wales and the UK to chart a safe return to events' organisers wrote.
There are a number of different options for runners registered in the race. Those who are registered have already been emailed with more information.
Since its inception in 2003, the Cardiff Half Marathon has become one of the UK's largest races. Last year, over 27,500 runners crossed the finish line of the race, raising £4 million for charity.
Runners have been reacting to the news:
This is such a shame, I love the atmosphere on race day in Cardiff, although the decision is totally understandable.
The loss felt by charities by those unable to fundraise as part of their Cardiff Half Marathon challenge will be big. https://t.co/yrPH3i3Tpc— Hannah - Marie Curie Community Fundraiser (@FundraiserHan) October 27, 2020

I seriously don't understand why the Cardiff Half keep putting it on the same date of the London Marathon. It's very very very fustrating to be honest.
