Despite an opening date finally being announced Cardiff's long-awaited bus station won't operate a full set of bus services for months after it opens. Transport for Wales announced on May 30 that the bus station would open to passengers a month later on June 30 but not all the services listed under the bus station's operational plan will use the station from day one.

The vast majority of services to use the bus station are operated by Cardiff Bus with the only exceptions being two Stagecoach services and the X30 operated by Newport Bus and the 30 co-run by Cardiff Bus and Newport Bus. Inter-city coach services like National Express and Megabus will not use the bus station. For the latest Cardiff news sign up to our newsletter here.

Cardiff Bus says it will transfer a handful of its routes to the bus station from Sunday, June 30, with more set to follow in the early autumn. A spokesman said: "Full details of this change and associated information will be posted soon."

A Newport Bus spokesman confirmed the X30 service will not be using the bus station from the day of opening. They added: "It is something that we will be reviewing but we have not set any timeframe as to when the service may use the interchange in the future."

Stagecoach will be operating two services via the bus station and both are expected to move there from June 30. You can see a full rundown of the services that will and won't be using the bus station when it first opens below.

These services will use the bus station from June 30:

  • 13 to Drope (Cardiff Bus)

  • 25 to Llandaff and Whitchurch (Cardiff Bus)

  • 32 to St Fagans (Cardiff Bus)

  • 61 to Pentrebane (Cardiff Bus)

  • 62 and 63 to Rhydlafar, Radyr and Morganstown (Cardiff Bus)

  • 92, 92B, 93 and 94 to Penarth and Barry (Cardiff Bus)

  • 95 and 96 to Barry (Cardiff Bus)

  • 122 to Tonypandy (Stagecoach)

  • 124 to Maerdy (Stagecoach)

These services were listed in the operational plan for the station published in May but were not included in Cardiff Bus' list of those using the bus station from June 30 and may be included in the second set to start using it in the autumn:

  • 6 to Cardiff Bay (Cardiff Bus)

  • 21 and 23 to Rhiwbina, Whitchurch and Pantmawr (Cardiff Bus)

  • 24 to Llandaff and Whitchurch (Cardiff Bus)

  • 27, 28 and 29 to to Llanishen and Thornhill (Cardiff Bus)

  • 35 to Gabalfa (Cardiff Bus)

  • 305 to Dinas Powys (Cardiff Bus)

  • 136 to Pentyrch and Creigiau (Cardiff Bus)

This service will not use the bus station from June 30 and may use it at some point in the future but there is no timeframe for when:

  • X30/30 to Newport

  • Cardiff Bus says it intends to put its journeys on service 30 into the bus station but plans to do this along with Newport Bus so the Newport to services all terminate in the same place in Cardiff.
