The legendary guitarist Carlos Santana collapsed on stage mid-concert in Detroit on Tuesday night after forgetting to "eat or drink", igniting fears over his health.

Santana’s fans were reportedly asked to pray for the 74-year-old musician after being told of a serious medical condition.

His management said that heat exhaustion and dehydration caused Santana to collapse and that he was “doing well” after being transferred to the emergency department.

“Thank you for your precious prayers,” Santana said after the incident. “Just taking it easy. Forgot to eat and drink water so I dehydrated and passed out. Blessings and miracles to you all.”

Lori Pinson, a Fox 2 meteorologist who was at the show, posted photos of the incident on Twitter.

“Medical personnel on stage. Crowd asked to pray for him because of a ‘serious medical’ issue’,” he said.

Santana is currently on tour alongside Earth, Wind & Fire as a part of the Miraculous Supernatural Tour.

His next concert, scheduled for Wednesday evening, has been postponed.

It is not the first time Santana has suffered from medical issues as of late. In December, he had to undergo sudden heart surgery, leading him to cancel a number of performances at his Las Vegas concert residency.

Santana’s debut album was released in 1969, after which he shot to fame with the release of  Abraxas and Santana III in the 1970s.

He has maintained a solid following ever since but returned to the limelight in 1999 with the hit album Supernatural.

Blessings and Miracles, his most recent album, was released in October 2021.
