Carnival Float in Düsseldorf Depicts Trump Assaulting Statue of Liberty

The tradition of political humour at the German carnival took a stab at right-wing and populist politics this year, particularly with US President Donald Trump in the crosshairs.

A float at the carnival in Düsseldorf on Monday, February 27, depicted the new American president sexually assaulting the Statue of Liberty. Another float showed the Statue of Liberty with the words “America Resist!” emblazoned across it, holding the constitution in one hand and Trump’s cut off head in the other.

Other floats in Cologne and Düsseldorf took aim at Brexit, Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Credit: Instagram/aladine_saidi via Storyful
