Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood mourns death of pet cat aged 20

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood has said she is heartbroken after her beloved pet cat Donald has died aged 20.

The 58-year-old weather presenter revealed she had adopted Donald when he was just six-weeks-old and said he will live on in her heart “forever”.

Kirkwood tweeted: “This just doesn't seem real....a week ago today, my gorgeous wee Donald closed his eyes for the last time... he was my joy and I loved him unconditionally I miss his company, his affection, and his quirky wee personality. He will live on in my broken heart forever.”

She added: “Thank you ALL for your kind words about my wee pussycat Donald. I got him from Cat Protection when he was 6 weeks old....and we have been together for the last 20 years. He will always be my darling boy.”

Kirkwood shared a picture of herself and Donald on her Twitter profile picture.

The BBC Breakfast presenter - who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 - recently made the news for an accidental comment she made while talking about dog walkers.

The weather presenter, known for her unwavering professionalism, left viewers laughing after saying there were “lots of doggers” in Greenwich Park during a live broadcast on Monday (10 August).

Ever the professional, the she immediately spotted the error and quickly corrected herself, saying: "Not doggers of course, lots of dog walkers and joggers around here through the course of this morning."

She later tweeted: "That will teach me to try and say joggers and dog walkers in the same sentence!!! Sorry!"
