Carol Vorderman Breaks Nose In Stairs Fall

TV presenter Carol Vorderman has broken her nose after falling down stairs while wearing four-inch heels.

The 52-year-old ex-Countdown star ended up in hospital and has been forced to cancel a number of appearances.

The Loose Women presenter's boyfriend, ex-Red Arrows squadron leader Graham Duff, took her to hospital, where she had surgery on her face.

Vorderman, who has a plaster cast on her nose, said: "I feel OK but, because I had my hands in my coat pockets while I was running, I had nothing to break my fall except my head.

"I really do look like I've done eight rounds with Muhammad Ali.

"The bruising round my eye has reached its peak. I have stitches in my forehead and left eyelid."

Vorderman, who also fronts Food Glorious Food, added: "I am just counting my blessings that I didn't damage my skull or the left eye itself."

She has said she feels like a "complete idiot" for not being more careful.

She had been to a meeting in central London.

Vorderman told Loose Women that "there was blood everywhere" and that she had on ankle boots she had "worn for years" when she fell.

She said: "I started screaming, the people waiting for the lift were wondering what was going on. I knew as soon as I hit the wall I had broken my nose."

Vorderman added the surgeon told her she had broken her nose once before.

"Apparently I'd broken the right side of my nose before. Must have been when I was a child, I think," she said.

She also used Twitter to thank fans and others who had sympathised with her plight.

In one tweet she wrote: "Thank you so much for all of your lovely wishes ... am counting my blessings as have a deep cut in my eyelid, was lucky it missed my eyeball x"
