Carol Vorderman has thanked fans for their fashion advice, saying she felt like a "grown up instead of a tomboy" in the low-cut black dress they helped her pick for an awards ceremony.

The former Countdown star had asked her followers on Instagram whether she should wear a gold, silver or black outfit for the Motor Transport Awards.

The majority opted for the floor-length black number and the TV star later showed off the results in a couple of sizzling snaps.

"The Black dress won....thank you for the advice," she wrote.

"I even washed my hair and curled it without burning myself!!!" added the 60-year-old star.

"I think that actually makes me a GROWN UP instead of a tomboy....for a change."

Vorderman's fans were wowed by the shots of her in the racy outfit, which was low-cut and featured lace panels at the sides.

"Stunning!" declared one on Instagram, while others said the star looked "gorgeous".

Vorderman often posts pictures of herself online for her appreciative followers.

Earlier this summer the star - who won Rear of the Year twice, in 2011 and 2014 – dazzled her fans by stripping down to her bikini for some DIY.

And last month she tickled her followers by posting a snap of her wearing a bikini inside out.

Vorderman shared an image of herself relaxing in a skimpy black bikini but eagle-eyed fans noticed her top was inside out.

The star wasn't phased by her bikini blunder when fans pointed it out and had a little joke about it - even laughing about not quite measuring up to actor Elizabeth Hurley, who also often shares bikini photos with her fans.

“Yes I'm a #HappyScruff.....#bikini top inside out #nomakeup (with huge apologies to @elizabethhurley1... Queen of the bikinis,” she wrote on Instagram. “One day I'll learn to posh up a bit… but probably not going to happen anytime soon.”
