Carol Vorderman believes Alison Hammond will take over Phillip Schofield's job on This Morning.

Incase you've been sleeping under a rock, long-serving presenter Schofield announced his immediate exit from the daytime ITV show last weekend.

Since then, the question on everybody's lips has been: who'll fill that void alongside Holly Willoughby?

While guest-spotting on Friday's episode of Have I Got News for You, Vorderman was asked by panelist Ian Hislop whether she's in line for the gig, having co-presented This Morning many times before.

"No. Probably Holly and Alison I would have thought," she replied. "That's where I'd put my money."

Hammond has already nabbed the delicious job of co-presenting The Great British Bake Off, following the departure of Matt Lucas, so it could be a year to remember should Vorderman's prediction come true.

In other news, Schofield penned a revelatory apology this week, confessing to an affair with a "younger male colleague" from the This Morning staff.

Obtained by The Daily Mail, it read: "Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than a just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.

"I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family.

"I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife."
