Swingin' in the Rain: Still Playtime in North Carolina, Despite 'Historic' Rain
Intense flooding in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, couldn’t wash away the fun for a kid who kept swinging through the historic rain that drenched parts of the state on Monday, September 16.
Footage here from Coy McDade shows the deep floodwater, and one of her kids showing that at least it made using the swing even more fun than usual.
Carolina Beach Mayor Lynn Barbee declared a state of emergency and warned residents not to go out.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that “historic” levels of rain had fallen across Carolina Beach, Southport, and Boiling Spring Lakes.
The NWS said some gauges were showing over 12 inches of rain had fallen in 12 hours, something they said only happens once every 200 years. One gauge in Carolina Beach showed over 18 inches in 12 hours, the NWS said, a level of rainfall to be expected “once every 1,000 years!” Credit: Coy McDade via Storyful
