Caroline, or Change will transfer to the West End’s Playhouse Theatre in November, it has been announced.

The musical opened at Hampstead Theatre this week after transferring from Chichester Festival Theatre. In her five-star review, Fiona Mountford described it as a “modern masterpiece”.

Sharon D Clarke will reprise the title role of Caroline Thibodeaux, who works as low paid laundry maid for a household in 1960s Louisiana.

The show is written by Jeanine Tesori and Angels in America playwright Tony Kushner, and won an Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 2007. This production is directed by Michael Longhurst, whose recent hits include Amadeus at the National Theatre and Belleville at the Donmar Warehouse.
