Caroline Flack is swapping the drama of Love Island for the razzle dazzle of the theatre as she joins the West End cast of Chicago.

Flack will take on the role of leading lady Roxie Hart from December 10 until the end of the musical’s run at the Phoenix Theatre on January 5 2019.

The TV presenter will join RuPaul’s Drag race star Todrick Hall, cast as Billy Flynn, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart.

This will be the first West End leading role for the Flack, who won Strictly Come Dancing back in 2014. It won't, however, be the first time Flack has acted in front of an audience, as she made her stage debut as Irene Roth in the national tour of musical Crazy For You in 2017.

Flack said: “I’ve been imagining playing Roxie since I was a teenager. To have now landed the role in the West End is a dream come true. I hope I do everyone proud and don’t fall off the ladder.”

Chicago came back to London’s West End last October following a five-and-a-half year break. During its original 15 year stint in London, it was the longest running revival in the West End.

Since the show's return it has featured star turns from Cuba Gooding Jr , Alexandra Burke and Duncan James .
