Caroline Flack quits winter 'Love Island' after assault charge

Caroline Flack has quit as the presenter of the upcoming winter series of Love Island following her recent arrest, although ITV have told Yahoo UK that they will be remaining in contact with the TV personality about future seasons.

Posting to her Instagram stories, the 40-year-old wrote: "There have been a significant number of media reports and allegations in regards to my personal life. While matters were not as have been reported, I am committed to co-operating with the appropriate authorities and I can't comment further on their matters until the legal process is over.

"However, Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it's the best show on telly. In order to not detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for Series 6.

"I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town."

She went on: "And on a really personal level I have never experiences such kindness and love in my whole life. Not just from friends and family who are always the greatest.. but also from total strangers who send messages to me offering help and understand...please know that I see them..and my boyfriend Lewis...I love you x."

A spokesperson for ITV told Yahoo UK: “ITV has a long standing relationship with Caroline and we understand and accept her decision. We will remain in contact with her over the coming months about future series of Love Island.”

Flack, who has hosted every series of Love Island since it began in 2015, was charged with assault by beating following an incident at approximately 5.25am on Thursday 12 December after reports of a man being assaulted, according to the police statement.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed Flack will appear on bail at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Monday.

A spokesperson for the TV personality detailed in a statement: "We confirm that police attended Caroline's home following a private domestic incident.

"She is co-operating with the appropriate people to resolve matters. We will not be making any further comment for legal reasons.”

The presenter is believed to share a home with 27-year-old boyfriend Lewis Burton, a professional tennis player.

Flack was due to host the first winter series of Love Island which is set to start in January with filming taking place in South Africa. It is not yet known who will replace her on the programme.
