Carson Daly Cut His Own Hair On 'TODAY,' and It's Nerve-Wracking to Watch

It's not everyday that a well-known TV show host agrees to cut his own hair on live television, but when in quarantine, do as the quarantined do. In an April 8 morning segment of Today, Carson Daly, who admitted he was much in need of a haircut, took out his tools and — with his children waving in the back of his shot — cut his own hair.

The host wasn't without help, though. Guiding him through the process was celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, who styled Jennifer Lopez's Super Bowl hair.

Unfortunately for Daly, Appleton lost wi-fi during the segment, which meant he couldn't use video to demonstrate technique. At one point Daly called in his 11-year-old son to get the back of his head, as Hoda Kotb watched (and cringed) on the other end of the broadcast.

The segment ended with Daly attempting to get the top of his haircut in order, but with no finished results. He promised to post a picture of the final outcome to Instagram.

The final picture Daly shared is a long way from where his luscious head of hair started, and it's not clear if the image is Photoshopped or not. Either way, his fans seem to be into the look, posting comments like "❤️🙌🏼Your son did a fab job!" and "Actually not so bad!" Although a few people miss his old look. "No way. This has to be a joke!" someone wrote, and "Your hair will all grow back in a week 😬" another commenter said.

If, like Daly, you're in need of an at-home hair cut, Appleton has some simple advice: always go a bit longer than you think you want it, just in case."Less is more in this situation," Appleton says. "Don't go over the top."
