As Prime Minister Theresa May prepared to officially trigger Article 50 today, launching two years of negotiations that will end with Brexit in 2019, Britons were sharply divided in their reactions.

Remain voters were dismayed that the process to live the EU was officially being set in motion. Those who voted to leave were, unsurprisingly, far more upbeat.

Among political cartoonists, the general tone was by-and-large pessimistic about Britain's prospects outside of the EU, although a handful did buck the trend.
