Case re-opened into man accused of having false number plate who challenged court

THE case of a man accused of having a false number plate has been re-opened.

Last Tuesday, Brian James Bailey's case was heard in his absence after he failed to give his name or co-operate with the court.

He was sent into custody for three weeks on completion of the case, for sentencing.

However, a court slot was found in front of the same judge, Judge Anthony Callaway, at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, on Friday.

The case was re-opened and Mr Bailey, 45, was released on bail.

He pleaded not guilty and the matter will go to trial. The next hearing will be on December 16 at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

Mr Bailey is charged with driving without insurance, fraudulently using a registration number, obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty and possession of cannabis, all on October 13.
