GRANTS of up to £350 are available for those wanting to put on an event for the King's Coronation this spring.

The money is available for charities and organisations who wish to put on picnics, flower shows, art projects, exhibitions or displays to mark the historic event.

The coronation of King Charles III will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.

A £3,500 grant pot is available from Weymouth Town Council (WTC) to support celebratory events in the town.

A maximum of £350 would be available to any one group to meet the costs of community events over the special bank holiday weekend.

Among the events planned in the town include a concert and fireworks display on Weymouth beach on Sunday, May 7.

Chair of the WTC services committee, Cllr Ryan Hope, said: “Offering these grants will help local communities and residents come together to celebrate this wonderful event.

“Weymouth Town Council is keen to hear from organisations that are interested in holding events for their communities so we can help with funding to meet costs or purchase materials you might need.

"We hope all organisers will think about ensuring their events are as environmentally friendly as possible.”

Grants will not be available for commercial events, the council said.
