A new licensee has taken over a watering hole that’s loved by its regulars and Port Vale supporters alike. Former care worker Cassie Thompson has taken on The New Inn in Market Place, whilst also managing Priscilla’s bar in Queen Street.

The busy 37-year-old had worked in social care and helped those struggling with their mental health for 15 years. After bumping into a friend in Bradwell Care Home four years ago, Cassie decided to jump ship into bar work.

The reliable lady has worked in the Red Lion, the Old Post Office and The Coach and Horses in Tunstall before taking on Priscilla’s Bar and now adopting The New Inn, too. She has appointed Chelsea Day, 24, as her deputy manager and says that they both love their jobs.

Cassie said: “I like being busy, I’m loving it. Me and Chelsea are both people people, so we really enjoy it. The pub is my baby now and I just want it to do dead well and I want everyone who comes in to have a good time. If all the pubs in the area work together then I believe we can get Burslem back to how it was, because it used to be rammed on the weekends.

“I’ve missed Vale days, so I’m looking forward to wearing the Vale shirts on match days, and we’ll be opening earlier - at 11am - on Vale days too. I’m putting entertainment on during the week such as cards [games], bingo, and that sort of thing. I’m hoping to do fundraising charity events next summer too, especially the Dougie Mac because it has a special place in my heart.

“There’s a darts board, a pool table and fruit machines. I captain a team from the Old Post Office - I’ve played for 20 years in the Tunstall women’s darts league - but I’m splitting the team up into two teams, and then one of those teams will be coming here.”

The Burslem boozer will be open every day from midday until midnight, opening at 11am on Port Vale match days.
