Good old Netflix. If they're not turning '80s movies into telly series, they're transforming iconic '80s videogames into super violent cartoons.

The Castlevania anime, featuring a grief-crazed Dracula taking revenge against humanity for the death of his wife (not a massive spoiler, this all happens in the first half of the first episode) was a huge hit amongst fans, so it's probably no surprise that Netflix has already started discussing season two.

Get all the latest news below, as we strap on our cape to throw a whole bunch of monstrous information at you.

Anime / videogame fans had barely finished their first binge of Castlevania before they were demanding new episodes (to be fair to them, the first season was only four episodes long).

Luckily for them, Netflix didn't keep them in the dark as to their plans for long, almost immediately announcing a new season – which will be double the length of the first.

As to when it'll land, according to writer Warren Ellis (more on him below), new episodes will be with us by summer 2018. And he was a man of his word as Netflix has now confirmed that season two will arrive on October 26.

Even more exciting, a third season is also on the way, with recording sessions taking place before the second run of episodes had even launched.

"We're about to record a third," Richard Armitage, who voices the character Trevor Belmont, told Digital Spy in June of 2018. "The second season hasn't been aired yet, but we're about to do a third."

Castlevania season 2 cast: Who's in it?

So, just to bring any curious vamp-fans who haven't yet caught the show up to speed, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last member of the disgraced Belmont clan, Trevor, who's trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of a pissed off Dracula.

It features Armitage as Belmont and Graham McTavish as Dracula, and they'll definitely be back for season two.

Also due to return, Alejandra Reynoso as the powerfully magic Sypha Belnades and James Callis' Alucard (Dracula's son) – mainly because they're involved in a pretty major cliffhanger in the final episode of season one.

As for new characters, it's hard to predict, but seeing as both Richard Armitage and Graham McTavish both feature in The Hobbit, maybe Luke Evans as another Dracula (he has played him before, after all) isn't too far outside the realms of possibility?

Also, Game of Thrones' very own Robb Stark, Richard Madden, has done voice work on the game – perhaps rewrite his contract so he also has to do the show?

Castlevania was in development hell for a long time – but one thing remained constant, Warren Ellis, the genius comic-book writer turned telly scriptwriter.

First brought to Ellis in 2007, the project has gone through many different iterations – including a straight-to-video animation and a live-action movie, before it landed in Netflix's lap.

Combine the fact that it's taken Ellis a long time to get this story to the digital screen, with the fact Netflix gives him more freedom than traditional broadcasters (Castlevania is very sweary, and incredibly violent), you can bet your last garlic necklace that he'll be back for more when Castlevania returns.

One thing we'll be hoping Ellis includes in season two of Castlevania? More Game Of Thrones references!

Castlevania season 2 length: how many episodes?

Netflix have already confirmed that season two will be eight episodes long, which is great news for fans. (The first season cuts quite nicely into a 94-minute movie, which is how it was originally envisaged.)

We wonder if not only will season two be longer in terms of the episode count, but in terms of episode length as well – something that Netflix is traditionally extremely flexible on.

SPOILER ALERT - season one ends with Dracula's son Alucard joining forces with former foe Trevor to take down his dad.

"The son of Dracula [Adrian Tepes, voiced by James Callis] and my character get much more collaborative," Richard Armitage revealed. "I think that's one of the most exciting things, they start to really work together."

With Sypha part of the gang already, we wonder if season two will go full Avengers Assemble, and bring more heroes into the anti-Drac squad? We'd like one Wolfman, and three Frankensteins please.
