Casualty actress Amanda Mealing has revealed who her character Connie Beauchamp is based on.

The star has uploaded a reactionary post onto Instagram, which tackles a Telegraph story from back in August. In it, a leading cardiac surgeon named Professor Marjan Jahangiri claims that she was subjected to "a campaign of bullying and harassment".

It just so happens that Marjan was instrumental in the development of Connie, and now, Amanda is using social media to spread a message.

She wrote to her 23,000 followers: "I have followed this woman's career for over 10 years. This is the woman Connie Beauchamp is based on. Only one of four female cardiothoracic surgeons in the UK. She is being harassed and bullied by her peers...all men. #TimesUp"

Clearly the star is hurt by the idea of her inspiration being allegedly bullied in the workplace, and some of her fans have responded to the post with equal passion.

"insecure boys more like, a real man would encourage and support her," one wrote, whilst another user replied "Why? Just why? Insecure men, professional jealousy. If she's anything like Connie she won't let them win. What a woman."

Meanwhile, Casualty left viewers at the edge of their seats last week after Dylan and Ciara look set to be involved in a dramatic vehicle collision.

As cliffhangers go, it was pretty heart-juddering.

Casualty airs on BBC One.
