Casualty aired a happy exit for Max Walker tonight (January 13) as he bowed out of the show with his wife Zoe Hanna.
Jamie Davis's final scenes aired in Saturday's episode of the BBC medical drama, which saw Max ultimately decide to give his marriage another go.
Fans had been aware that Sunetra Sarker would be making a one-off reappearance as Zoe this weekend, but her role in Max's departure had been kept under wraps until transmission.
Speaking to Digital Spy about his exit, Jamie – who plays Max – said: "I can't think of a better way for Max to leave than with Zoe and I can't think of a better way for me to finish than working with Sunetra.
"What most actors want to do is to tell interesting stories with interesting people, so to get to tell the story of Zoe and Max was one thing, but to get to do it with Sunetra was another thing entirely.
"Sunetra is sharp, intelligent, committed and generous, and while she takes the work seriously, she never takes herself too seriously. She sets a high bar for herself which I like and working with her has been a real pleasure.
"I was so pleased she came back and delighted I got to work with her in the first place."
Max's final episode saw him rocked by two blasts from his past as he came face-to-face with both Zoe and his old friend, James.
Shocked by Zoe's arrival at the ED after nearly two years away, Max initially rejected her attempts at a reconciliation – adamant that he still wanted a divorce.
However, when a frightening incident with James later put Zoe in danger, Max started to reconsider his future with the doctor as she prepared to leave again.
While it seemed like the on-off couple really were about to part ways forever when Zoe headed to the airport alone, the closing moments of the episode saw Max appear on her flight – announcing that he was coming to America with her.
Max's happy ending with Zoe brings an end to Jamie's four-year stint on the show. He's played the porter since 2013.
Casualty continues on Saturday, January 20 on BBC One.
