Amanda Mealing (Connie Beauchamp) confirmed that there will also be a death in the soap when speaking exclusively to Digital Spy.
An episode synopsis also mentioned that Jack Nolan will be leaving his role as Will Noble on the show in the coming weeks.
The show description read: "It's an exhausted Will's (Jack Nolan) last day in the ED, but will he be able to make his peace with the department?"
It also mentioned that Robyn (Amanda Henderson) would be trying her best to help a conflicted patient. Elsewhere, Rash (Neet Mohan) will build up the courage to start seeing people and will go on a date.
The Casualty episode that is dedicated to coronavirus will give viewers an insight into what it's like to be a worker in a hospital during a pandemic.
It will focus on showing how physically and emotionally demanding the pandemic has been on health care workers.
Mealing explained that it was important for the show to mention COVID-19, saying: "We all experienced it, we all lived through it, and we acknowledge it – because it is part of our lives now – but I don't think people want to sit down every Saturday and trawl through that."
"It's heavy and it's a lot. I don't think anyone wants to sit through that every week. We do have to move on in the following weeks but COVID is still a part of the ED experience."
Casualty returns on January 2, 2021, at 7.35pm on BBC One.
