Casualty has dropped a brand-new trailer teasing its big January return and fans are in for some very intense scenes if the clip is anything to go by.

The first look, which has been shared on the show's official Twitter account, confirms a return for Connie Beauchamp's (Amanda Mealing) daughter Grace Beauchamp-Strachan (Emily Carey) as she visits her mum at the hospital.

But it's not an entirely happy trip, as Connie reminds Grace that she has "really, really painful memories associated with this place" and we see Grace having flashbacks to her previous terrible accident as she has a panic attack outside the hospital.

Connie doesn't seem to be having a great time as the New Year arrives, as the trailer opens ominously with a shot of Connie sitting in the dark and asking: "How did I let this happen?"

The trailer also promises a big baby reveal for Fenisha Khatri (Olivia D'Lima), as she walks into a room looking very visibly pregnant – much to the shock of Ethan Hardy (George Rainsford), who is the baby's father.

"You're still pregnant. With my baby. You're a liar, and selfish, and a coward," Ethan angrily exclaims, while Fenisha becomes tearful.

But it seems that Ethan has a slight change of heart as he is seen later in the clip looking at Fenisha's scan picture and telling her that she "won't go without".

Things take a scary turn, however, when Fenisha and Ethan have an accident while out in the woods as they both fall and injure themselves on some uneven ground. Terrified Fenisha is worried that she will have a seizure, but Ethan assures her that she is not on her own.

There's more trauma on the way for the hospital's staff as we see a man with what looks like a bomb strapped to himself, as he says: "The worst day of my life and you can't even remember it, can't even remember her name." But who is in danger if the bomb goes off?

The show has teased a big confrontation between Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) and Lev Malinovsky (Uriel Emil), while Dylan Keogh (William Beck) is also entangled in the couple's troubles. There's a huge accident on the way for the trio too, as Faith and Dylan are caught up in a horrific ambulance crash which ends with the ambulance falling into the river. But will everyone make it out alive?

Of course we will also see the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the hospital's staff, as they are implored not to feel responsible by Jacob Masters (Charles Venn).

Thankfully there are also some lighter moments featured in the trailer, with shots of the staff dancing and some hints at new romances on the way. We also get our first glimpse at new paramedic Leon North (Bobby Lockwood), who mistakenly thinks that the hospital has the cleaners in.
