Michael Stevenson's reprisal of the role has been known since Christmas, the star having originally departed the soap last September.
Iain's return comes amid Jan Jenning's drugs storyline as she tries to protect her son Ross, with this Saturday's (April 10) episode seeing her and Ffion Morgan ambushed by masked men on motorbikes, who attack Ffion.
Amid the confrontation, Jan is secretly passed drugs for her next drop for Ross, who later calls his mother, insisting that he tried to protect her and telling her she has to do the drop.
Later on in the prison, Jan is horrified to see an inmate bleeding from stab wounds, though they manage to stabilise them.
However, the commotion provides Jan the opportunity to slip the drugs under the bed while alone in the cell – though at that very moment she sees a horrified Iain standing over her, who demands she remove the drugs
Begging him to stay quiet, a guard then arrives and Iain says nothing of what he saw, though he later confronts her. While Jan insists that she had no choice, Iain tells her that she is playing into their tricks.
Yet he is now complicit, and vows to help Jan given what she has done for him in the past – though makes her promise not to do a drop again.
Jan agrees, though will she be able to stay true to her word?
Casualty continues this Saturday (April 10) on BBC One.
