Casualty's Connie Beauchamp headed for the exit door tonight (April 3) as actress Amanda Mealing takes a break from the medical soap.
Her final episode was dominated by drama, with Connie even coming clean to her daughter Grace that she was a recovering drug addict.
All eyes were on her tonight and this meant Twitter became crammed with reactions to her exit, though opinion is a bit divided over how her departure went down.
"Well that ended a bit suddenly [sad emoji] can't believe that's it for Connie now," wrote one viewer, before a second shared: "Wait.... What!?!?!?!? Connie's leaving just like that???? There was no mention of her leaving, what!?!?!".
"That was really the way they left Connie's last episode...?!" questioned somebody else, while a fourth person added: "@meamandamealing Connie has inspired so many people, in so many ways. her strength and determination despite the odds, has always been incredible to watch.
"There aren't many women on tv quite like Connie. the ED won't be the same without her. #casualty #17YearsOfConnie."
Below, you'll find more opinions concerning Connie's temporary departure from the soap:
Addressing her character's low-key exit, Mealing told Digital Spy: "I thought it was a nice way to go. I didn't want a big, contrived story or for Connie to leave after a helicopter crash or a big confession. In real life, that doesn't really happen.
"People just slip away quietly for different reasons and that is what Connie did."
