Casualty star Azuka Oforka has left the show after eight years in the role of nurse Louise Tyler.

The actress made her final appearance in Saturday night's episode (February 16) of the BBC medical drama, which saw Louise bow out of the ED after a difficult few months.

Viewers know that Louise has been struggling to support herself financially since the end of last year, but her problems have come to a head in recent episodes.

Devastated in the wake of Ernest's death and Connie's attack, Louise started to reflect on life working for the NHS and realised that she needed to take a stand.

Confident that she had taught her student nurses Jade and Marty everything she could, Louise handed her resignation in to Charlie and walked out of the hospital with her head held high.

Azuka has played the role of Louise since 2011.

There's a busy time ahead for Casualty and Holby City in the next few weeks, as BBC bosses have announced plans for a special two-part crossover event which will air on Saturday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 5.

Speaking about the episodes, Holby City and Casualty's executive producer Simon Harper said: “We’ve known for some time there’s been major audience appetite for a mega crossover between these sister shows, so that’s exactly what we are serving up!

"You’ll see both the Casualty and Holby teams striving heroically against the odds in two episodes of pure, nail-biting, taut, emotional medical drama."

Casualty continues on Saturday, February 23 on BBC One.
