Casualty spoilers follow.
Casualty star Charles Venn has teased what the future holds for Jacob Masters and Connie Beauchamp when the show returns.
Connie and Jacob were in a relationship back in 2016, but were torn apart after her daughter Grace was severely injured in a helicopter crash.
Speaking exclusively in the latest episode of Digital Spy's brand new Soap Scoop podcast, Charles – who plays Jacob – said: "Connie was always the main flame for Jacob, 100 percent. I think that Connie definitely thought that too. She knows she was the one.
"I want to believe in my heart that they will be able to forge a long-term relationship. I want to believe that Jacob could propose to Connie and they have a wonderful wedding and maybe a kid together. In my world, that is what I want. But we are talking about Casualty here where it's all about drama. Nothing is ever smooth-sailing.
"So as much as I want that, I am preparing myself for some kind of horrible scenario that just takes the situation left and everything will go up in smoke in some shape or form, unfortunately. I am trying to be positive but it's hard as it's happened so many times in the past. "
Charles added: "They have gone back and forth so many times. Their relationship is very complicated – you have one who has commitment issues and the other is very headstrong. Who knows though? Maybe in the next series they will be able to fix their differences."
Charles also revealed that he was delighted when he heard that the show would be exploring Jacob's spark with Connie again.
"I was really excited," he said. "I thought it was about damn time! The audience have really made their feelings very clear on social media that they wanted this to happen – it's always Jonnie, Jonnie, Jonnie.
"When we found out that it was going to finally happen, they were going to potentially reconcile, I was like 'yeah', and Amanda felt the same. We just knew it was giving the audience what they wanted."
