Casualty star Charles Venn has discussed the "heart-wrenching" storyline which will see Jacob Masters' mother Omo pass away.

Speaking with Inside Soap, the actor shared that his character Jacob tries to repair his complex relationship with Omo (Ellen Thomas), who has stage four pancreatic cancer.

"It's heart-wrenching. You wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy," he said. "Jacob's desperately trying to make up for lost time with his mum, trying to mend their relationship, and he's doing it on borrowed time.

"But he does feel a sense of solace that she's able to open up to him."

Charles continued: "Jacob wants his mother to love him as much as he loves her, so to have that and to gain closure before she passes away is hugely powerful.

"However, to have her die in his arms is devastating – it's making me emotional just thinking about it."

Venn previously revealed that the storyline was originally meant to unfold last year, but was put on hold due to his Strictly Come Dancing commitments.

"I knew as soon as Strictly was over, we would return to this and continue the story. Although to dive back in there again and deal with these emotions was very tough," he said.

Casualty airs Saturdays on BBC One.
