Casualty star Michael Stevenson has opened up about Iain Dean's return storyline, revealing that he crosses paths with Jan Jenning as she turns to a life of crime.

The BBC soap confirmed the paramedic's return over Christmas in a festive video following his original departure back in September.

However, the actor has revealed that as part of his storyline he will learn of the trouble that Jan (Di Botcher) is having as he catches her doing something illegal to protect her son, Ross.

"Iain's completely shocked to discover the mess Jan is in," Michael told TV Times. "He'll stand by her side, but with Ross in prison, it's not simple."

Di herself elaborated: "Jan is about to do something that she never, ever, thought she'd do. But she only does it because of her love for Ross, who has always been able to manipulate her.

"Jan's police-officer wife Ffion knows something's wrong. Then her colleague Iain catches her doing something illegal and unethical. Jan's so ashamed."
