Casualty will air heartbreaking scenes for Duffy tonight (March 23) as she gets the diagnosis she's been dreading.

Duffy (Cathy Shipton) has been living in fear ever since self-diagnosing herself with dementia last year and recently underwent tests the necessary tests for confirmation.

When Duffy finally gets her results in tonight's sad scenes, her world will be turned upside down when the doctor confirms her suspicions – she's in the early stages of cascular dementia.

As a nurse, Duffy is highly encouraged to inform her employer of the news and to talk to someone about her diagnosis.

Aware she can't keep this to herself, Duffy then endures a difficult conversation with her estranged husband Charlie – who also happens to be her line manager.

Although Duffy insists that she is only informing him for professional reasons, Charlie is visibly rocked by the news and struggles to know what to do or say.

Instead, Charlie takes a practical approach to the situation – taking Duffy off night shifts and any difficult duties, leaving her more alone than ever.

Charlie also makes the decision not to inform the rest of the team at the moment, but how long can he keep this to himself for?

Casualty airs these scenes tonight at 8.30pm on BBC One.
