Cat-astrophe Averted: Firefighters Rescue Feline Trapped in Suburban Denver Storm Drain

The South Metro Fire Rescue came to the aid of a cat trapped in a storm drain in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, on November 16, the fire department said.

Footage of the rescue shows one-year-old cat Kubo being hoisted from the drain and being handed to his owner.

The fire rescue squad reported the cat was in “quite a predicament,” wandering through the sewer system meowing. Officials first used food to lure the cat to an access point, but it “managed to escape capture,” they said.

Then “firefighters located another pipe access point and used a high-pressure air cylinder to force loud air down the pipe toward Kubo,” wrote the South Metro Fire Rescue.

“The air was just scary enough that he ran down the pipe and into the waiting arms of an Animal Enforcement Officer. Kubo was carefully handed up to a firefighter and reunited with his human. Thankfully Kubo was uninjured, and he is home safe.” Credit: South Metro Fire Rescue via Storyful
