A cat became an unwitting drug runner when it returned to its home carrying a plastic bag packed with wraps of suspected class A drugs.

The feline’s haul, containing around 30 individually-wrapped pellets, was discovered by its shocked owner on Sunday night in St Pauls, Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police’s Ashley neighbourhood team highlighted the discovery on Twitter, writing: “Look what the cat dragged in. Great result in St Paul’s when a resident’s cat brought this in during the night! The owner got a bit of a shock but called us straight away!”

From its main account, Avon and Somerset Police tweeted: “Forget police dogs, we should start training up cats. Apparently the owner found this in the cat’s bed, with the feline curled up next to it!”
