A cat stuck on a roof in Leicester for several days had to be rescued by firefighters. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it received a call at 9.18am on Tuesday (September 17) reporting that the puss was stranded on a building in Welbury Road, in Hamilton.

The caller said the feline had been on the roof for three days, but was not "physically trapped”, a service spokeswoman said. A crew from the city's Eastern Fire Station went to bring the slightly miffed-looking adventurer back down to earth.

The station said in a social media post that the crew set up a 9m-tall ladder to reach the kitty. It added that it was called to “countless” animal rescues across the county, and that such jobs “play a significant role in our work”.
