Nurse arrested after woman in coma gave birth

A nurse has been arrested after a 29-year-old woman who had been in a vegetative state in the US for years gave birth at a long-term health care facility.

Phoenix Police said licensed practical nurse Nathan Sutherland, 36, has been detained on one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse.

He worked at the Hacienda HealthCare facility on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona, where the woman lived after becoming incapacitated at the age of three in an incident in which she nearly drowned.

Search for missing footballer could be called off

The search for a plane carrying Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala and a pilot is now a recovery operation, according to the Channel Islands Air Search.

Guernsey Police have found “no trace” of the missing plane which was carrying Sala after a search and rescue operation that targeted an area of 280 square miles around Alderney using multiple aircraft from the Channel Islands, France and the United Kingdom.

Sala was aboard a light aircraft which disappeared from radar en route from Nantes to Cardiff on Monday evening.

Snow and ice cause disruption across Britain as more freezing temperatures loom

Snow and ice have caused rail delays and school closures and forecasters have warned of even colder weather ahead overnight across the UK.

The Met Office said temperatures will drop further on Wednesday night, to as low as -7C (19.4F), with clear skies causing wet surfaces to “freeze quite readily”.

The forecaster issued a yellow severe ice warning for the south east, central and north of England as well as for Scotland from 6pm on Wednesday to 11am on Thursday.
