The National Hurricane Center (NHC) confirmed Hurricane Delta made landfall on the eastern coast of Mexico early on Wednesday, October 7. The storm brought heavy rain, winds up to 110 mph, and life-threatening storm surge to the Yucatán Peninsula.
Footage filmed by Adrián Melendez shows damage in Cancún within the hotel zone – a resort-studded stretch on the southeastern coast of Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo. Tourists had evacuated inland and fled to airports ahead of the storm.
