Director Tom Hooper's movie adaptation of Cats is certainly gaining momentum, with the official cast stuffed with big names.

Transporting Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic musical onto the silver screen will be Taylor Swift, Sir Ian McKellen, James Corden and Jennifer Hudson.

The film has been written for the screen by Billy Elliot's Lee Hall and will begin production in November. Lloyd Webber's stage classic follows a tribe of cats (the Jellicles) over the course of one night as they decide which of their group will ascend to the 'Heaviside Layer' and come back to a new life.

There's been no confirmation as to who's playing which character, but the Daily Mail suggests that Hudson will play Grizabella, while surely McKellen would be in line for Old Deuteronomy.

Plus, wouldn't it be amazing if the cast portrayed their roles through the use of motion-capture? Although, at 79 years of age, it's doubtful that McKellen will be prowling on all fours in the same vein as Mowgli's cast.

Hooper also has the BBC's His Dark Materials on the agenda, which is set to be a six-part adaptation of Philip Pullman's parallel-universe adventure. He's also known as the man behind the likes of 2012's Les Misérables and 2016's The Danish Girl.

Corden, meanwhile, has his Late Late Show schedule to work around for this one. Recently, the host discussed the time in which a music legend refused to do his signature Carpool Karaoke feature, walking away from the studio and driving off.

Can you guess who it was?
